Rome modified this political system several times over the years in order to deal with internal conflicts and managed to establish a complex, yet organized government. The Romans had a clear concept of executive authority, embodied in their word, imperium, or ‘the right to command’† (Spielvogel 117). Atop the chain of command were the two consuls and praetor. These elected officials served one-year terms, with the consuls having a military focus and the praetor having a political focus. A s the Roman republic expanded, pro-praetors and pro-consuls, who previously served as consuls and praetors, were also appointed to govern the Roman provinces. Furthermore, Administrators, or officials with specialized duties helped assisting the Consuls and Praetor. Quaestors were in charge of overseeing financial affairs. Aediles supervised the games. Also, Censors were appointed to gather an assessment of the population. The main purpose of establishing this position was to aid in formulating taxes. A major modification that solidified Rome as a governed republic was the addition of the senate. It consisted of three hundred advising elders who served life-long terms. Since they did not have legislative authority, they could not make laws. Finally, the Centuriate Assembly contained high ranking Roman army officers functioning in a political role. â€Å"By any reasonable standards the constitution worked smoothly. There was no interruption in the annual election of office holders, and not a single Roman is known to have been killed, or even injured, in political violence during the period† (Millar 2). The Roman population consisted of the Patricians and Plebeians, with the plebs being the majority. The Plebeians, who were underprivileged and poor, opposed the aristocratic patricians because they did not have the same rights as them. Moreover, the patricians controlled the entire government, and the hard-working farmers and small landowners of the plebeian group could not hold office and have someone to represent them politically. When the plebs became tired of the inequality of the government they essentially went on strike and left Rome. â€Å"The patricians, realizing that they could not defend Rome by themselves, were forced to compromise. Two new officials known as the tribunes of the plebs were instituted. These tribunes were given the power to protect the plebeians from arrest by patrician magistrates. Moreover, a new popular assembly for plebeians only, called the council of the plebs, was created in 471 B. C. † (Spievogel 118). This allowed the plebs to make governmental proposals, but they still did not have a true voice in the government. For the next two hundred seven years, more rights were granted to plebeians, and â€Å"by 287 B. C. all Roman citizens were equal under the law, and could strive for political office† (Spievogel 120). By now the republic had adopted the Plebiscite, which were laws created by the plebs. For the next one hundred fifty-four years, the Roman Republic thrived, making several conquests, while also establishing allies. Rome and its neighbors of the Italian peninsula were seemingly in a constant feud, which eventually led to a series of battles and wars and â€Å"by 267 B. C. the Romans completed their conquest of southern Italy. After crushing the remaining Etruscan states to the north, Rome had conquered all of Italy, except the extreme north, by 264 B. C. † (Spievogel 120). Rome also established many allies along the way: â€Å"To rule Italy, the Romans devised the Roman confederation in 338 B. C. Under this system, Rome allowed some peoples (especially the Latins) to have full Roman citizenship. Most of the remaining communities were made allies† (Spievogel 120). With the use of these allies and the powerful Roman army, the Romans faced little opposition in conquering Italy. In the course of their expansion throughout Italy, the Romans pursued consistent policies that help explain their success. The Romans excelled at making the correct diplomatic decisions†¦. Though firm and even cruel when necessary, rebellions were crushed without mercy† (Spievogel 120). Incorporating similar strategy that they used in conquering the Italian peninsula, the Romans success continued in their conquest of the majority vast Mediterranean islands and coastlines. Among these conquests were the islands of Corsica and Sardinia, Spain, Macedonia, Carthage, and Pergamum. At this point, almost the entire Mediterranean Sea was controlled Roman Republic, while the government and military continued to be run effectively, But things would soon change. According to Spievogel, due to a snowball effect of social, economic and political issues the decline and fall of the Roman Republic began around 133 B. C. As previously stated, the plebeians and patricians were eventually made equal in all aspects of Roman government and livelihood; however â€Å"the magistracies and senate were increasingly controlled by a relatively select circle of wealthy and powerful families – both patrician and plebeian – called the nobles. From 233 – 133 B. C. , eighty percent of the consuls came from twenty-six families† (Spievogel 134). The voice of the public was becoming muted, which is always a gateway to rebellion and uprising. Like most civilizations before them, the Romans were built on agriculture and farming by individual landowners. These farmers made up the majority of the Roman army as well. â€Å"In order to win the Punic wars, Rome had to increase the term of military service to six years. Now when the soldiers returned after many years of service abroad, they found their farms so deteriorated, that they chose to sell out instead of remaining on the land† (Spievogel 136). The aristocrats also began to accumulate this land and hired slaves to produce a variety of crops that the independent farmers couldn’t compete with. Farmers continued to lose money and property. Consequently, the cities became crowded with these ex-farmers, serving as day laborers. â€Å"This new class of urban proletariat formed a highly unsustainable mass. Thus Rome’s economic, social, and political problems were serious and needed attention† (Spievogel 136). Tiberius Gracchus wanted to fix the growing problem of landless farmers in Rome, thinking it would solve many of the issues causing Rome’s decline. When he was elected as one of the tribunes of the plebs, he passed a bill whereby the government would divide the public land, used by large landowners, among the landless farmers. â€Å"Many senators, themselves large landowners whose estates included tracts of public land, were furious, and a group of them took the law into their own hands and assassinated Tiberius† (Spievogel 136). The death of Tiberius marked the beginning of the end of the Roman Republic. For the next one hundred years, the chaotic Roman government saw more assassinations, dictators, and rebellions. An excerpt from â€Å"Julius Caesar† reads, â€Å"Our first glimpse of Caesar’s Rome shows the tribunes, whose ancient office had been established to protect the people against the nobility’s arrogance, now apparently forced to defend the republic against the people themselves† (Blits 42). Although Rome revolutionized government with a complex, and effective system that is still used as a basis for many governments, it proved to be vulnerable to increasing economic, social, and political issues, which brought about the republics destruction. These events that directly led to Rome’s relapse from a thriving democracy years ahead of its time, with divided power and stability, to a chaotic system of government consisting of dictators and frequent turmoil provide a clear example of the overzealous quest for and misuse of power by several individuals. Personality Disorders There are many types of personality disorders and each one has different symptoms and characteristics. Some characteristics are shared by different disorders. People who rebel against their culture or society or who have outbursts and rages or have trouble with social skills, how they see themselves, how they cope with being around other people, and how they control their impulses are characteristics all shared by those who suffer from personality disorders. Many people who suffer from one disorder usually suffer more than one at a time but does not believe that they have a problem. It is said that, Symptoms stem from basic personality traits that develop over a period of time.(Mental Health) There are a few basic treatments for people with personality disorders that work for some, but not for others. Psychodynamic psychotherapy, or psychoanalytical therapy, focuses on past events and long repressed feelings. Psychodynamic models integrate the past with the patients current life. Behavior therapy is used to teach different kinds of social skills. Cognitive therapy concentrates on changing of negative thinking. Cognitive-behavioral therapy combines cognitive and behavioral therapy techniques. Personality disorders affect ten to fifteen percent of the population. Some affect certain populations more than others. Studies have suggested that biology plays a part in these disorders. Personality disorders can be inherited from generation to generation and are a primary result of the persons experience during childhood and adolescence. Borderline Personality Disorder is the most common personality disorder and affects approximately 2% of the population (Mental Health). Those that suffer from this disorder may experience brief periods in which they separate from reality and often are diagnosed with depression and psychotic disorders. They are unstable in personal relationships and have an unstable self-image and emotions and have little control over impulses. They can be self-destructive, but are rarely violent to other people or animals. Antisocial Personality Disorder is present in 3% men and 1% women and between 70-80% of the prison population (Mental Health). By definition, antisocial personality disorder, or ASP, is a lifelong personality disorder that affects many more men than women and begins before age 15 (Black). It has been studied more than any other personality disorder and can be characterized by a pattern of disregarding and violating others rights and safety. Sufferers can be defiant, irresponsible, deceitful, irritable and aggressive. They may experiment with drugs, alcohol, and sex at a very young age. As a spouse they may be abusive, unfaithful, dishonest and manipulative. Histrionic Personality Disorder is present in 2-3% of the population and more common in women (Mental Health). Sufferers can be characterized by a pattern of seeking attention in strange and unusual ways. They are excessively emotional, overly trusting and gullible, self-absorbed and are concerned with presentation. People with this disorder can function with relatively few problems in society. To be psychosocial implies that personality disorders are a result of experiences the person has had, particularly during childhood or adolescence. Physical, emotional and especially sexual abuse has all been implicated as a cause of personality disorders. Not all abused children develop a disorder and not all people with a disorder have been abused. It just means that abuse leaves a person vulnerable to developing a personality disorder.

However, it is often used more broadly with a vague meaning that isnt readily translatable- meaning something along the line of to function, to do, to go along, or even simply to be. Examples of Using Andarfor Walking Here are some examples of the verb being used with its common, most literal meaning: Yo andaba con mi amigo Adry. Are the SAT Subject Tests Changing SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The SAT was redesigned in 2016- a huge revamp that has been linked to the Common Core and attempts to re-secure market share lost to the ACT.This may leave you wondering: what about SAT Subject Tests? Are they changing? Will there be new SAT Subject Tests modeledafter the main SAT redesign? In a word, no. At least, not now. So what does this mean?Well, for starters, it means that SAT Subject Tests will now be even more different from the regular SAT than they were before the SAT redesign. In this article, I’ll go over the implications of the â€Å"mismatch† between the redesigned SAT and the SAT Subject Tests. How are the formats different, and how should you approach these differences?I’ll also go over how the SAT redesign has changed how Subject Test content overlaps (or doesn’t) with the regular SAT.Finally, I will engage in some wild speculation (okay, fine, evidence-based speculation) about where the SAT Subject Tests may be going in the future. The SAT Subject Tests Are Not Changing First things first: the SAT Subject Tests are not changing. The College Board has come right out and said it! Of course, this doesn’t mean that the SAT Subject Tests will never change or be redesigned, but, at present, nothing has been announced. So you can expect that they will be administered in the same format for at least the next few years. However, the main SAT redesign does mean that there are now some additional differences between the regular SAT and the SAT Subject Tests. The winds of change...are not blowing for the SAT Subject Tests. Formatting Differences Between the New SAT and the SAT Subject Tests There were always some differences between the SAT and the SAT Subject Tests. While Subject Tests are each one hour long in a specialized subject area, the regular SAT is a multi-section, broad-content test with variable time lengths per section. This remains the case under the redesigned SAT. But with the redesign, there are a couple of additional differences between the two test types in question format and scoring.Let’s break them down: The redesigned SAT has only four answer choices per question, but mostSAT Subject Tests will continue to have five answer choices per question.The only exception is the foreign language Subject Tests, which have four answer choices per question. All things being equal, this means your chances of randomly guessing a correct answer on most SAT Subject Tests is 5% lower than on the main SAT (20% vs. 25%). This probably won’t make any real difficulty difference between the two exams because on a five-choice test like a Subject Test, there’s generally at least one really obviously wrong answer in the bunch. A bigger change is that the redesigned SAT has no penalty for guessing while the SAT Subject Tests will continue to have a penalty for wrong answers to discourage guessing. On Subject Tests with five answer choices (again, this is most of them), you'll lose 1/4 of a point for each incorrect answer. For the foreign language Subject Tests, which have four answer choices, you'll lose 1/3 of a point for each incorrect answer. This may actually make your test-taking strategy somewhat different between SAT Subject Tests and the regular SAT. Basically, you should definitely answer every question on the regular SAT, even if you have no idea of the answer because you lose nothing by guessing. In contrast, you might want to take a slightly more conservative approach on your Subject Tests and only guess when you can eliminate some answer choices. Otherwise, you run the risk of an extra penalty for getting the answer wrong. Don't get stung by wrong answer penalties! Subject Tests That Might Line Up With the New SAT...Or Not In addition to formatting changes, the SAT redesign also involved some pretty major content changes. We’ve reviewed those changes in-depth, but here’s a quick summary: All questions for Reading are now passage-based, and not all of the passages will be literary; there will be nonfiction passages. All questions on Writing will also be passage-based, and the emphasis has shifted a little more towards questions on writing style and away from questions on arcane grammar mechanics. The new Math sectionhas less geometry, and questions are rooted more in real-world situations and skills you learned in class and less on abstract â€Å"logic† type questions. The overall test is now weighted more heavily towards the Math section. Reading and Writing together form Evidence-Based Reading and Writing for 800 points and Math stays at 800 points (so the total is 1600 points). If we compare the redesigned SAT content to Subject Test content, we’ll see a surprising cadre of similarities and differences. Subjects that have never before overlapped with the main SAT will now have some points of overlap, and some Subject Tests, like Math, that used to share lots of material withthe main SAT aren’t all that similar to the redesignedSAT. These next sections will go over what material on Subject Tests is also covered on the SAT and how you can use this to your advantage when you prepare for both the main SAT and the Subject Tests. Subject Tests: Math 1 and Math 2 Overlaps with: SAT Math Both of the Subject Tests in Math still overlap with the Math section of the revised SAT, but less than they did before.While many similar topics are covered, there are some key differences between the way questions are presented. First, the new SAT Math has a no-calculator section and free-response questions. The SAT Math Subject Tests are all multiple choice, and calculators are allowed the entire time. Second, the redesigned SAT focuses much more on â€Å"real-world† style problems, mathematical modeling, and reading and interpreting data. Given this focus, the scope of the math tested on the exam has narrowed. (For one thing, there’s much less geometry). The SAT Subject Tests are much more about testing how well you’ve learned a variety of more advanced mathematical concepts, so you can expect a broader range of topics and more problems like what you would see on a high school math test. Math II covers evenmore advanced topics than Math I. Because of this, Math II overlaps with the new SAT Math section even less than Math I does. There’s just not enough room on Math II to cover some of the more basic math concepts that Math I and SAT Math both focus on. Here are the topics that still overlap among the three tests. You should be aware, however, that shared topics are weighted completely differently on each exam! As mentioned above, the new SAT Math is much less focused on geometry of all types than either of the Math Subject Tests, and it's much more interested in â€Å"real-world† style problems and mathematical modeling. Overlapping topics on all three math exams: Basic statistics: mean, median, mode, reading graphs Coordinate geometry for lines and circles Calculating volume of 3-D solids from formulas Basic trigonometry: right triangles, identities Creating mathematical models Manipulating and solving expressions, equations, and inequalities Ratios and proportions Complex numbers Math I and SAT Math both include some Euclidean plane geometry for angles, circles, and triangles; Math II does not (Euclidean geometry concepts are assessed via coordinate and 3-D geometry).Math II and SAT Math now also both cover radians, which are not covered on Math I. So will studying for Math Subject Tests help prepare you for the SAT Math section? Certainly, reviewing math topics that are covered on both the Subject Test you are taking and the main SAT Math section will be helpful, but the questions are presented differently, and there are topic areas that don’t overlap. This is particularly truefor Math II. If you’ve just taken Math I or Math II and you are now preparing for SAT Math, make sure that you aren’t relying too much on your calculator or multiple-choice strategies. These won’t be with you for the entire SAT Math section. Will studying for the Math section help with the math-based Subject Tests? Again, it will help you somewhat in that you will be studying some overlapping topics. But you’ll need to be prepared both for the topics that don’t overlap and for the different exam formats. All these math exams! It's enough to make your head spin. Subject Test: Literature Overlaps with: SAT Reading In some ways, SAT Reading is closer to the Subject Test in Literature than it was before because all of the questions on the Reading section are now passage-based, as in the Literature Subject Test. However, while Literature has only literary and poetic passages, the Reading section will now include a number of nonfiction passages as well. This means that, while the close-reading skills you develop for Literature will help you with the passage-based questions on SAT Reading, you will be reading and answering questions about some very different types of passages. You can expect to see nonfiction and historical passages on SAT Reading that you will need to read with an eye for identifying the evidence authors use to support their claims. By contrast, the SAT Literature Subject Test will have much more of an emphasis on literary devices. So will studying for Literature help prepare you for Reading? Sort of, in that it will hone your close-reading skills. However,you need to make sure you also know how to read non-fiction and historical passages for comprehension and to identify evidence, which really does not play into the Literature test at all. Conversely, will studying for Reading help prepare you for Literature? It will help a little bit, but the passages on Literature are much more, well, literary, so you will need to make sure you have a stronger grasp of literary devices than SAT Reading requires. Also, the Literature Subject Test has poetry, which is a whole different animal; for more guidance on that, see my guide to the Literature Subject Test. Read on to learn why this might be on your SAT Reading test! Subject Tests: US History and World History Overlaps with: SAT Reading This may surprise you, but you might now find some minor overlap between your US History or World History Subject Test and SAT Reading.SAT Reading now includes, in one of its five passage sections, â€Å"One passage or a pair of passages from either a U.S. founding document or a text in the great global conversation they inspired.† (see the College Board page for Inside the SAT Reading). The College Board claims that you won’t need any outside knowledge to understand the documents they choose for the Reading test, but any contextual knowledge you have about â€Å"U.S founding documents† (i.e. the Declaration of Independence, the Gettysburg Address, etc.) and their global counterparts certainly won’t hurt you. And, if you are taking the US History or World History Subject Test, chances are you have some of that outside contextual knowledge. Additionally, both history Subject Tests include some questions on primary source analysis- a similar skill to the analysis of historical documents on Reading. So, will studying for US History or World History help prepare you for the Reading section? It will help a little bit, by giving you historical context and the skills to close-read historical passages.Will studying for SAT Reading help prepare you for US History or World History? Again, it will help a little bit, depending on what â€Å"founding documents† you are exposed to in your studying. Subject Test: Biology Overlaps with: SAT Reading and Math The new SAT involves an increased amount of reading charts and graphs in the Reading, Writing, and Math sections.The Biology Subject Test also involves questions that test your knowledge of reading graphs and charts. So, learning to read graphs and charts for one of these exams will help you with this skill for all the other exams. Basically, making sure you know how to read graphs and charts properly is a skill that will help you on a number of College-Board administered exams, and also life. If jellyfish could read charts, they probably would have taken over the world by now. As you can see, while there is overlap between certain Subject Tests and the new SAT, none of the overlap is substantial enough that prepping for one really preps for the other in any significant way.Preparing for Subject Tests, in general, certainly won’t hurt your SAT performance or vice-versa, but it definitely won’t replace or even hugely augment specific prep for the exam you are taking. What Could Be Next for the SAT Subject Tests? So is a revamp coming for the SAT Subject Tests anytime soon?Well, let’s think about what niche the Subject Tests fill compared to the main SAT. The SAT is meant to be a college entrance exam that tests a wide variety of skills and predicts performance in college (it historically hasn’t really done this, but that’s the idea).The SAT was revised for a lot of reasons, but overall the goal is to make the SAT more predictive of college success and less based on whether you could afford a tutor or even a prep book to learn strategies. (Do I think the College Board met their goal? That’s a story for another day.) The SAT Subject Tests, however, never purported to be the kind of exam that any smart person could do well on. They have always been meant to showcase a particular talent or expertise in a subject. Because of this, I don’t think it’s terribly likely that there are any major content changes for the SAT Subject Tests coming anytime soon. However, I do think it’s a little bizarre to administer two kinds of SAT tests with different scoring mechanisms and a different number of answer choices. There may well be a more minor SAT Subject Test revision just for the sake of creating consistency between the two tests. Thus, while I don’t think a major revamp in content is coming soon, I do think it’s possible that there will minor revisions to make the tests more harmonious in format. Harmonious like these creepy singing angels. Key Takeaways Are the SAT Subject Tests changing? No! There will be no newSAT Subject Testsfor 2016. This means that, unlike on the main SAT, most Subject Tests have five answer choices per question, and there’s a -0.25 point penalty for every wrong answer. The exception is foreign language Subject tests, which have four answer choices per question, and there's a 1/3 point penalty for every wrong answer. The changing format of the SAT does mean that there may be some new and different overlaps between Subject Tests and main SAT content. In terms of future revisions, I don’t think there’s going to be a major content revision any time soon, but there may be a formatting revision to bring the two tests into greater harmony. Starvation. Mass shootings. Gas chambers. Beatings. Mass murder. In the early 1940s, perhaps the most brutal attrocities ever committed on a people in our world’s history took place. It was World War II. The Nazi Regime, led by Adolf Hitler, was waging war across Europe. Occupied Poland became the place where those prisoners and captives held by the Nazis were sent to be eliminated. From 1941 through 1945 a total of some 3.5 million Jews met their deaths in Nazi extermination camps. These â€Å"death camps† as they are often referred to had the single goal of eliminating the Jews while hiding these crimes under a shroud from the rest of the world. Unlike the â€Å"concentration camps† of the same time, where Jews were brainwashed and ordered to do labor for the Germans yet still often killed, the death camps were devised solely for the mass killings of prisoners. There was no discrimination. Men fit for work, women and children of all ages were not sorted and suf fered the same fate. These events would be known as â€Å"the Final Solution† to the Jewish problem faced by the Nazis.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Captive Jews were held in areas called â€Å"ghettos† ultimately commanded by the Germans. Following through with the elimination of the Jews, the Nazis gave them fierce living conditions often housing dozens of people in small buildings. Food was administered in very small amounts. Those that did not starve to death were either shot or sent to camps. Some were sent to concentration camps. There were also labor camps. There was also a group, called the Waldkommando, who operated in the surrounding forest to make sure no one could see what was happening inside.

Lets stop scaring are self’s

Crimson's essay â€Å"Lets Stop Scaring Ourselves† makes readers think twice at any time they hear of an issue that may affect them. Coercion reasons that people will often scare themselves whenever they hear of an issue that will upset their lives. Coercion starts his essay by declaring that when the scientists were predicting the world to experience global cooling rather than global warming. Then follows with how the world was to suppose to have ended. In the duration of his essay he pronounces a sense of miscalculations from people who've made predictions about owe our world will end or be destroyed.Coercion states that these predictions terrified people making them believe we would have global cooling, experience a decline In the population and experience brain damage using cell phones. Coercion conserves that people live In a state of panic whenever we hear news that could possibly change our world. During the essay Coercion uses YAK as an example of how computer speciali sts predicted that the stock market would crash and airplanes would fall out of the sky. When this news arose people cashed out here savings and money market accounts and then in the end nothing changed.Crimson's essay uses ample numbers of examples to show how different cases can cause one to scare or frighten there self's. Providing examples helped prove his argument that people will often scare themselves with real life situations. He proves to the readers with examples from global warming and cooling, to the world starving to death, and even the world running out of supplies. When people hear about these issues they acknowledge it is scary to hear about nevertheless often things get out of reapportion and an issue that may not be a big one will turn into one.Issues today often get tossed way out of proportion. When we hear of something that will hurt us we will freak out and stop doing whatever that is or don't do it at all. Coercion mentions in his essay that he read an article about an issue of cell phones causing brain damage. We have seen and heard of this before. In an article by the university of Wisconsin-Madison they found that cell phone usage does not affect brain damage or create brain tumors.There are numerous articles that support this Information, all you have to do is look for it and not Just believe the first misinformed bit of news you hear. I believe everyone scares themselves with the news they hear from friends, social media, their surroundings, and Fox. It is hard to believe or trust anything we see on TV or the news now a day. Scare tactics have been used to control the populous of the world since the beginning of time, not only by evil men but our own government as well.We need to not trust or believe every bit of news we hear room so called â€Å"creditable sources† and take the time and put the effort upon ourselves to Investigate news that could affect our own lives.
